What's the difference between injection-molded products and vacuum-formed products?

There are clear differences between injection‑molded products and blister‑formed products in production process, structure, cost, performance and applications.
Injection molding melts raw materials and injects the molten plastic into a closed metal mould under high pressure. After cooling and solidification, finished products are ejected. It can make thick‑walled, three‑dimensional parts with complex shapes, such as lunch boxes, tableware, hangers and combs. Injection‑molded goods have uniform wall thickness, high structural strength, good sealing performance and stable dimensions. However, mould costs are relatively high, so it is more suitable for large‑batch orders.
Blister forming heats flat plastic sheets until soft, then uses vacuum or pressure to stretch the sheet over a mould surface for shaping. Products are usually thin‑walled, shallow containers or packaging trays, such as blister cups, inner packaging liners and disposable food trays. Blister‑made items are lighter with thinner walls. Its mould investment is lower, and sample‑changing speed is faster, which suits both medium and small‑batch production. But blister products have uneven wall thickness, relatively lower rigidity and fewer options for deep, complex structures.
In short, injection molding is preferred for rigid, thick‑wall functional finished goods, while blister forming is widely used for lightweight packaging and shallow disposable containers.
