1.The name of the standard: EN 13432-2000 Packaging - Requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and bio-degradation - Test scheme and evaluation criteria for the final acceptance of packaging.
2.This standard specifies four typical procedures for determining composting and anaerobic biological treatment of packaging and packaging materials.
(1) the ability of biodegradation;
(2) the disintegration of biological treatment;
(3) the effect of biological treatment;
(4) the verification of the quality of compost.
3.Test items and requirements for EN13432.
(1) Volatile solids content
Standard: Contains at least 50% volatile solids.
(2) Heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, cobalt, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, lead, selenium, zinc, copper, fluorine, etc.)
(1) Determination of final aerobic biodecomposition and disintegration capacity ISO14855-1:2005
Standard requirements: 180 days degradation rate of more than 90% (90% of the material into carbon dioxide and water)
(2) The determination of disintegration degree of plastic materials ISO 16929:2002
Standard requirements: 12 weeks of compost material disintegration of 90% of the test material, should be broken down into smaller than 2mm of debris.
(3) Determination of ecotoxic effects to higher plants OECD208
Standard requirements: the composted material for plant culture, germination rate and biomass should reach more than 90% of the comparison sample.
